Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association Selects Cleveland Division of Fire Battalion Chief for Fire and Life Safety Advocate of the Year
Sean DeCrane Recognized for Efforts to Enhance Public Safety Through Education, Training
CLEVELAND, Ohio (July 10, 2014) – Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association has selected Sean DeCrane, Battalion Chief and Chief of Training for the Cleveland Fire Training Academy, for its Fire and Life Safety Advocate of the Year award.
The award is given to a person who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the safety of the public through innovative efforts, including legislative, educational, enforcement or other effective means.
“Sean DeCrane has shown a passion and dedication for reducing life and property losses from fire throughout his career,” said Eric Smith, president of Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association. “We wanted to recognize Chief DeCrane’s efforts highlighting fire prevention as a necessary part of every firefighters’ duties with this prestigious award.”
Chief DeCrane, a 23-year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Fire, represents the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Cleveland Fire Department as chairman of the International Fire Code Development Committee. He is also a member of the NFPA 1 Fire Code Committee and Vision 20/20, a national effort to define and implement fire prevention strategies nationally. Through the IAFF, he has developed fire prevention training and promotion videos that have helped make a significant difference in the fire service culture.
In addition, he serves on UL’s Fire Council, the United States Fire Administration Residential Fire Environment Workshop Project and the United States Fire Administration project on Fire Fighting Tactics in Wood-Frame Residential Construction. He is also a contributor for Fire Engineering Magazine and co-hosts its “Taming the Fire Environment” podcast.
Sean DeCrane will be formally presented with the Fire and Life Safety Advocate of the Year award during the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association’s Annual Meeting on October 22-24, 2014 in Naples, Florida.
